La Gran Huevada
20,000 eggs, rustic bread, and the tastiest night in Villafranca
Every May 14th, on the eve of San Isidro Labrador, Villafranca de Córdoba celebrates one of its most unique and beloved festivals: La Gran Huevada. What began in 1982 as a simple dinner promoted by the Agrarian Chamber to highlight local agricultural products has evolved into a mass phenomenon that attracts thousands of visitors.
The premise is as simple as it is delicious: more than 20,000 eggs are fried in extra virgin olive oil, which are distributed for free accompanied by rustic bread and local wine. It is a tribute to the most humble and authentic gastronomy, turned into a massive festival of coexistence.
More than gastronomy
The festival is usually held around the Town Hall Square and the Fairgrounds, transforming into a hive of joy. Whole families and groups of friends enjoy not only the dinner but also the music and live performances that last until dawn, serving as the perfect prelude to the big day of the patron saint of farmers.
