Festivals and traditions of Villafranca de Córdoba
La Gran Huevada (The Great Egg Feast)
Every May 14th, Villafranca de Córdoba celebrates La Gran Huevada, one of its most beloved festivals. This event takes place on the night before the feast of Saint Isidore the Laborer, the patron saint of farmers.
During the celebration, fried eggs with bread are handed out to all attendees, hence the name La Gran Huevada (“The Great Egg Feast”). What began many years ago as a simple dinner organized by the Brotherhood of Saint Isidore has grown into one of the town’s most important festivities.
The celebration is held in the Town Hall Square, where locals and visitors enjoy food and music in a joyful, family-friendly atmosphere. The night continues until the early hours with performances and other activities that fill the evening with fun.
