What to See and Visit in Villafranca de Córdoba

Rest Area of La Ventilla

The Rest Area of La Ventilla in Villafranca de Córdoba is a natural site of great ecological and cultural value. Located at the junction of the drovers’ roads (vías pecuarias) of the Cordel de Córdoba to Villanueva de Córdoba and the Colada de La Ventilla, this area offers a dehesa landscape of wild olive trees and holm oaks, currently used for cattle grazing.

In the past, this was the site of an inn (venta) that served as a resting point for transhumant livestock. Today, although only the foundations of the old inn remain, the rest area has become a recreational space for the town. From here, visitors can follow trails such as the Cuesta de los Ladrones or the Colada de Córdoba, enjoying landscapes where it is not unusual to spot large birds of prey like the golden eagle or the Spanish imperial eagle.

The area is also part of the Iberian lynx reintroduction zone, adding extra appeal for nature lovers. From the rest area, visitors can see Cerro Gomero, an archaeological site from the Bronze Age, and Cerro del Palo, which preserves an old line of trenches from the Spanish Civil War.

This setting is ideal for birdwatching and hiking, offering a unique experience in close contact with nature.
