What to see and visit in Villafranca de Córdoba

Fuente Agria Bird Observatory

There are places where the earth and the sky connect in a special way. The Fuente Agria peri-urban park is one of them, a green lung named after the peculiar ferruginous taste of the spring that flows from its bowels.

At the top of this park, caressing the public mountain of La Sierrezuela, stands an observatory that works as a privileged window to the highways of the sky. Between mid-February and early May, this point becomes a VIP box to witness one of nature’s great spectacles: bird migration. From here, the silhouette of raptors and storks cuts the horizon on their epic journey from Africa to northern Europe.

But Fuente Agria is not just for looking up. At ground level, life bustles around the Pontejón stream. Under the shade of stone pines and eucalyptus trees, families find a perfect refuge. Picnic tables, a generously flowing fountain, and the sound of water create the ideal setting to disconnect from routine.

And if the body asks for more action, this environment serves as a base camp for adventure. From quiet hiking to the adrenaline of climbing at the nearby Peñón del Águila or canoeing on the Guadalquivir, Fuente Agria is the starting point to discover an active, natural Villafranca full of life.
