Holy Week in Villafranca

From Palm Sunday to the joy of Resurrection Sunday, Villafranca de Córdoba is transformed. Everything begins with the joy of the La Borriquita procession, filling the streets with palm and olive branches, marking the start of an intense week. It is the moment when the town takes to the streets to welcome the great days.

The Days of Passion

As the week progresses, solemnity takes over the atmosphere. On Holy Wednesday, fervor centers on El Rescatado and the Virgen de la Amargura, followed on Holy Thursday by the imposing presence of El Nazareno and the Virgen de los Dolores. These are nights where emotion is palpable in every corner, illuminated only by the wax of the nazarenos’ candles.

Good Friday marks the peak of recollection with the procession of the Holy Sepulcher, the Christ of Charity, and the Virgin of Solitude, processions that invite reflection. Finally, sadness gives way to joy with the outing of The Risen Christ on Sunday, closing a cycle of faith that renews the municipality’s traditions year after year.
