Arca de la Fuente

If water is memory, the Arca de la Fuente is the oldest memory of Villafranca. Located 2.5 km from the town, this fountain is not a simple spring; it is the historical ground zero of local survival.

For centuries, or as the elders say, since “time immemorial”, this enclave was the hydraulic heart of the town. Before taps existed, entire generations of Villafranqueños made a pilgrimage here, traveling along the Linares path, to stock up on the liquid element. It was a place of work, of effort, and a mandatory meeting point.

Today, the function of the Arca has radically changed, although its essence remains. In 2013, the City Council transformed the environment, recovering it no longer for survival, but for enjoyment. What used to be a loading point for pitchers is today a recreational area equipped with picnic areas and parking. It is the perfect place to reconnect with nature without straying too far from civilization.

A very special and stealthy neighbor
But the Arca de la Fuente guards a secret beyond the water. It is located in an enclave of very high ecological value, a privileged territory that has been selected for the reintroduction of the Iberian lynx in Andalusia. If you walk in silence and are lucky, you might feel the presence of the most endangered feline in the world, which has found its home in these parts, turning your visit into an experience that unites rural history and unique biodiversity.
