What to see and do in Villafranca de Córdoba

Hermitage of Our Lady of Los Remedios

Construction of this temple began in 1701 with contributions from local residents and was not completed until 1731.

Located one kilometer from the town, it houses the image of Our Lady of Los Remedios. The building has a Latin cross floor plan, characteristic of the Baroque style of the time. The main façade, made of fine ashlar masonry, is notable for its open pediment designed to hold the belfries. The doorway features fluted pilasters and a fragment of a curved pediment with lateral volutes, decorated with vegetal motifs typical of the early 18th century.
Another highlight is the Marian Way of the Cross in ceramic tiles, crafted by the pottery workshops of Santa Ana de Triana (Seville). The image of Our Lady of Los Remedios, patroness of Villafranca, was sculpted by Bujalance artist Juan Martínez Cerrillo in the early 1940s, replacing the original lost during the Spanish Civil War.
