Hermitage of the Virgin of Los Remedios
The construction of this temple began in 1701 with the contributions of the neighbors and was not completed until 1731.
Located one kilometer from the town, it houses the image of Our Lady of Los Remedios. It is a building with a Latin cross plan, characteristic of the Baroque period. The main facade, made of excellent ashlar masonry, stands out for its open pediment for the bell gables. The portal features fluted pilasters and a fragment of a curved pediment with lateral volutes.
This design is adorned with plant details typical of the early 18th century. Also notable is the Marian Way of the Cross in tiles, created by the Santa Ana pottery in Triana (Seville). The image of Our Lady of Los Remedios, protector of Villafranca, was sculpted by the Bujalance artist Juan Martínez Cerrillo in the early 1940s, replacing the original one that was lost during the Spanish Civil War.
