Festivals and traditions of Villafranca de Córdoba
La gran marranada
La Gran Marranada is celebrated on the weekend before May 14th and 15th. This event is part of the Friendship Festival organized by the Brotherhood of Saint Isidore the Laborer. It consists of preparing and roasting a large pig, which is then shared among the residents of Villafranca and all those visiting the town during these days. The celebration also includes the election of the Romería Queen and her ladies of honor, tastings of fried chorizo, performances by rociero choirs, and more.
Roasting the pig takes the whole day, so the festivities begin early in the morning, continue at midday, and last well into the night.
