La Ventilla
The area of La Ventilla is a beautiful meadow landscape, which is also a historical crossroads where the paths of man and the trails of nature meet.
Its name is no coincidence. Years ago, an old inn (venta) stood here, a vital refuge for shepherds and transhumant livestock that traveled the cattle routes of Córdoba. Although the original building is now just a memory on the ground plan, the spirit of a “resting place” endures. Today, the Descansadero de La Ventilla has traded tired cows for families and hikers, becoming a fundamental recreational space for the municipality.
But what really makes this place special is who inhabits it now. This environment of wild olive trees and holm oaks has become a sanctuary for biodiversity. It is a reintroduction territory for the Iberian lynx, the most endangered feline on the planet, which has found a safe home in these lands. If you look up, it is easy for the majestic flight of a golden or imperial eagle to surprise you, reminding you that here nature is in charge.
In addition, La Ventilla acts as a privileged balcony to history. From here you can see the Cerro Gomero, a mute witness to the Bronze Age, and the Cerro del Palo, with its scars from the Civil War. It is a perfect starting point for routes such as the Cuesta de Los Ladrones, offering a complete experience where ecology and memory go hand in hand.
