March 18th and 19th

St. Joseph’s Day

Carpentry tradition, the taste of ajoarriero, and neighborhood pride

On the weekend closest to March 19th, Villafranca de Córdoba turns its attention to the San José Neighborhood. This festival is one of the most deeply rooted traditions of the town and constitutes a true example of citizen participation. Organized by the Cultural Association of the San José Neighborhood, in close collaboration with the City Council, the festival turns the neighborhood into the social epicenter of the town.

The celebration has a special meaning in Villafranca, a predominantly carpentry municipality where a large part of its neighbors masterfully dedicate themselves to the manufacture of kitchen furniture. San José, patron saint of the neighborhood and the trade, is honored in an atmosphere of humble and hard-working people, where the pride of belonging is breathed in every corner.

The Taste of Coexistence

If anything defines this festival, it is its ability to gather everyone around the table. The popular tastings are the soul of the event: from the massive great sardine roast to the famous “ajoarriero”. Musical activities accompany the day, strengthening ties between neighbors and visitors in a unique atmosphere of brotherhood.

A Renewed Neighborhood

The festival also serves to enhance the value of the environment. The City Council has poured its efforts into improving the area, highlighting the actions in the Hermitage of the Virgin of Las Angustias and the entrances to the neighborhood. The goal is clear: to build a homogeneous Villafranca, without social differences, where each neighborhood shines with its own light while maintaining its essence.

Thus, St. Joseph’s Day is not just a date on the calendar, but a reaffirmation of local identity, where the carpentry tradition and the joy of sharing go hand in hand.
