What to see and visit in Villafranca de Córdoba

Triumph of Saint Raphael

In the 18th century, during a period of strong religious fervor and frequent epidemics, the lords of the town decided to place an image of Saint Raphael as a symbol of protection. They personally covered the costs and positioned the sculpture to face their homes, located on what is now Calle Canales.

Over time, the original figure deteriorated, and a new one was commissioned. It was placed atop a column pedestal—similar to the one seen today—to better protect it and prevent possible damage.
